GCSE Results Day 2022/23

Another Vintage Crop: Staff and Students Celebrate at St Margaret's

For the second time in a week, staff and students are celebrating at St Margaret’s Church of England Academy on Aigburth Road, as another cohort of students collect some fine examination results today.

Across the country, GCSE and Level 2 BTEC results were published at 8:00am this morning.  Nationally, the results have been pegged to pre-pandemic levels – so across England, they are expected to be slightly lower than 2022’s results (which were boosted to reflect the disruption of the pandemic years).

Despite the national adjustments, many students at St Margaret’s had broad smiles on their faces as they read their results slips and checked whether they’d got the grade they needed for their chosen courses in Year 12.  The year-group was generally a sea of smiles, given the great results so many had achieved.

65% of GCSE grades awarded were ‘strong passes’ (ie a grade 5 or above), and 79% of GCSE grades awarded were at grade 4 or above.  76% of students achieved at least a grade 4 in both their English and their Maths.  “These figures speak for themselves,” commented Principal Stephen Brierley. “They are truly impressive and have been achieved despite the disruption these students experienced in Key Stage 3.  It just goes to show what a resilient, hard-working group of students the ‘class of 2023’ were.  They’ve been rewarded with some excellent results, and we are deeply proud of them!”.

Stephen was also keen to heap praise on the staff at St Margaret’s too.  “None of our students’ many successes would have been possible without the dedication and commitment of the staff here.  So many of my colleagues have gone above and beyond the call of duty to support our Year 11s; their efforts have been just as creditworthy as those of our students.  Thank you to everyone who has played their part so ably!”.

Given these results, Stephen is expecting that demand for places in St Margaret’s Sixth Form will be high – especially given the high levels of results achieved by the outgoing Year 13 last week.  “But I’m very confident we’ll be able to accommodate everyone who’s made the grades,” he added, “so if you would like to be part of our ongoing success story, do get in touch!”.  The school’s telephone number is 0151 427 1825.

But the last word must go to out students,” concluded Stephen.  “Well done to everyone who has achieved so highly – we salute you!
