Famous Faces Celebrate First XI Success

It was a memorable season for the First XI Under 18 football team of St Margaret’s CE Academy as they lifted the Merseyside Colleges League NDS Trophies Championship.

On 22nd May 2015, the First XI were joined by the St Margaret’s Old Boys Football team who were formed in 2011 by the Essemmay Association of former students of St Margaret’s for an Awards Night spectacularhosted by our very own Chair of Governors, Peter Oliver.

Secretary of the Old Boys Football Club, Greg McLean, is also the Manager of the First XI team and spoke of his pride at seeing both of his sides doing so well “As a former student of the school myself, it has been a very special year to be involved with the First XI. To lift the league title in my first season as Manager is something I could only have dreamed of back in September. But full credit has to go to the players who have shown tremendous commitment and dedication both on and off the pitch to the school, their team-mates and to me as their Manager. I couldn’t have asked for a better group of players.”

In planning the End of Season Awards celebrations, Manager Greg McLean wrote to a number of high profile organisations and was perhaps not expecting the support he received. On the night itself, McLean was able to present special video clips and voice-overs from some of the most well renowned faces and voices in football;

Gary Lineker (BBC Match of the Day), Mark Chapman (BBC Match of the Day 2), John Fendley & Paul Merson (Sky Sports Fantasy Football Club), Jake Humphrey (BT Sport), David Jones (Sky Sports Saturday Night Football), Geoff Shreeves (Sky Sports Reporter), Adrian Durham & Darren Gough (talkSPORT Drive-Time Presenters), Colin Murray (talkSPORT Presenter), Alan Irwin (Radio City Commentator), Jim Beglin (Ex-Liverpool footballer) & Johnny Phillips (Sky Sports Reporter).
