Members and Governors
Governing Body Composition
St. Margaret’s Church of England Academy is a Single Academy Trust
The principles of governance are the same in academies as in maintained schools, but the Governing Body has greater autonomy.
The Members of the Academy are akin to shareholders and have ultimate control over the direction of the Academy. They ensure the charitable company achieves its objectives, sign off the financial accounts and annual report, and appoint some of the Governors.
The Members of the Academy Trust (as noted in the Articles of Association)
- Rev Canon Gary Renison - The Liverpool Diocesan Educational Trust (company no.8188067) ("LDET")
- Mr Peter Oliver - Chair of Governors, St. Margaret’s C.E Academy
- Mr Stephen Claus - Appointee of LDET (and Governor of St. Margaret’s C.E Academy)
- The Bishop of Liverpool
- One person appointed by the Secretary of State, in the event that the Secretary of State appoints a person for this purpose.
The Governors are responsible for the three core strategic functions (strategic direction, holding the Principal to account for educational performance and overseeing the financial performance of the Academy). A Governor of an academy trust is a school governor, a company director and a charity trustee - but they are referred to as “Governors”. They also ensure compliance with charity and company law and the Academy Trust’s funding agreement.
