A Level Results 2022/23

Congratulations to all our students

Once again, staff and students are celebrating at St Margaret’s Church of England Academy on Aigburth Road, as another cohort of students celebrate some fine examination results today. Across the country, ‘A’-level, ‘T’-level and BTEC results were published at 8:00am this morning, and many students also received confirmation about their plans for next year. Many students at St Margaret’s had broad smiles on their faces as they read their results slips and checked their University places online – understandably so, given the great results so many had achieved.

62% of ‘A’-level grades awarded were C or higher, and BTEC grades were similarly impressive. Most subjects achieved a 100% pass rate, and some subjects have produced particularly strong results this year. Whilst those results aren’t directly comparable with those of previous years (when nationally, more higher grades were awarded to reflect the disruption caused by the pandemic), Principal Stephen Brierley was still delighted with how well the Year 13 students had done. “It’s been another vintage year for us here at St Margaret’s”, he explained.

“We have to remember that this group of students have not taken a series of national exams since their Key Stage 2 SATs in 2016! – as their GCSE exams were cancelled due to the pandemic. They’ve come through the experience with flying colours; the vast majority have secured places at the University of their choice, and it has been a privilege to share in their celebrations this morning. We salute you, class of 2023!”.

Stephen was also keen to heap praise on the staff at St Margaret’s too. “None of our students’ many successes would have been possible without the dedication and commitment of the staff here. So many of my colleagues have gone above and beyond the call of duty to support our Year 13s; their efforts have been just as creditworthy as those of our students. Thank you to everyone who has played their part so ably!”.

But the final word must go to our students, who have witnessed so much pandemic-related disruption over the years, and yet still achieved so highly. In doing so, commented Stephen, they have demonstrated themselves to be “a truly resilient cohort of students” with whom it has been “a pleasure to work with over the years”. “We are proud of you!”
