Personal Development

Here at St Margaret’s, we offer more than just academic opportunities.

Personal development

We’re very proud of our personal development programme which runs fortnightly, where we provide sessions that help students develop their compassion, resilience, and respect. In recent years, here are some of the sessions that have taken place:

Andy Grant, the world’s fastest man on one leg, came in to speak to students about his inspirational journey.

Margaret Aspinall, leader of the Hillsborough Justice Charity, shared her experience and the importance of young people voting in elections and gave us an insight into our democratic process.

Professor Jon Tonge, Politics Professor from the University of Liverpool, explaining the importance of young people voting in elections and gave us an insight into our democratic processes.

Adam Andre
, an ex-student now working for the International Slavery Museum, spoke to students about the importance of Black History in our city.

Merseyside Society for Deaf People
teach our students some vital sign language and empathy for those with disability.

Students also take part in CV Writing workshops, learn how to cook meals for University, DIY sessions, basic car maintenance, road safety awareness, first aid training and much more.

volunteering

All students in Year 12 are asked to give back to both their school and local community by completing hours in our Volunteering programme. Students are able to support students in lower school through a range of opportunities such as mentoring and reading support, in-class assistance, collective worship, sports clubs and school events.

Sixth Form 5-a-side league

Our Sixth Form 5-a-side league runs every Friday and has been a success in bringing both Year 12 & 13 together as one community. We play on the newly built astro-turf facilities and run team of the week and golden boot competitions to go alongside our league and playoff format.

 Fitness Suite

Students also have access to our fitness suite so they can look after their body as well as their mind.

We also encourage students to volunteer at places that will give them experience in their chosen career path. They have volunteered in places such as Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, local primary schools and church groups.
