Best-selling children’s author Phil Earle created a new generation of aspiring writers with some of our 7 students. The award-winning novelist, whose books include Bubblewrap Boy and Superdad’s Day Off, encouraged the students to conjure up imaginative prologues inspired by the opening lines of his own novel Being Billy.

At the beginning of the workshop, very few of the boys would claim to be writers, but by the end of the day their lively imaginations had produced some suspenseful opening lines.

The event was in support of the Liverpool Readathon project which raises cash to buy books and provide reading buddies for children at Alder Hey Hospital.

Head of English Siobhan Bell said:” Literacy is an important feature of our daily life at St Margaret’s. It was fantastic to have Phil Earle here today to work with our students who produced some brilliant prologues.”
