St Margaret's students celebrate more outstanding results!

Record books have been rewritten at St Margaret’s today as the ‘class of 2014’ achieved the best results ever in the school’s history.  Early indications suggest that 82% of students achieved the Government benchmark of at least five higher-grade GCSEs including English and Maths, a 4% increase from last year, and 2% better than the school’s previous record-best, which dates from 2010.

“This is a fantastic achievement by all concerned,” commented Principal Stephen Brierley.  “Following on from our best set of post-16 results for several years last week, I am thrilled that our Year 11 students have achieved so highly too.  Congratulations to all our pupils, and many thanks too to all the teachers and support staff who have helped make these results possible.”  He was particularly pleased with the strong results in the core subjects of English, Maths and Science.  “Over the last few years we have worked closely with colleagues to ensure our pupils achieve the very best they can, and I am delighted that so many of our pupils will be leaving us having reached a high standard in these important subjects.”

Quite a few students arrived at school today to collect their results showing some signs of nerves, but many of them left school with broad smiles and genuine joy.  “So many of our students have achieved outstanding grades,” said Mr Brierley.  “Our top 10 students between them amassed a staggering total of … A* grades and … A grades”.  But he was keen to stress that St Margaret’s was a school that celebrated the achievement of all its students.  “Some students have worked very hard to achieve C grades in English and Maths, and we are equally delighted they have achieved that benchmark,” he added.  This emphasis on taking care of all students, regardless of their ability, has long been a feature of St Margaret’s ethos, and at no time is that more important than a day like today.

Mr Brierley was expecting that today’s great results will encourage more students to apply for places in the Sixth Form.  “We still have places in next year’s Year 12, and applicants don’t need to go to church to join us.  If any prospective students are interested in becoming part of our highly successful Sixth Form, do get in touch: enrolment starts today!”.  The school’s telephone number is 0151 427 1825.
