Autism Awareness Week 2017

Friday 3rd – 7th March 2017

(Please see Invitations below text...)

This week in school, we will be recognising Autism Awareness Week. The week will highlight what the autistic spectrum is. Autism affects how a person thinks, feels and learns, and we believe it is crucial that teachers and fellow pupils know and understand as much as possible about the condition. We want all of our pupils to become aware of, understand and accept those around them who may have a diagnosis of ASD.

SMA has a full programme of events lined up to help equip the whole school community with an understanding of ASD and the knowledge to accept and empathise with autistic people, as World Autism Awareness Week gets underway this April.

A highlight of the week is set to be the ‘market place’ event taking place on Thursday (6 April), which will bring together a host of professionals to offer advice to parents and pupils who want to learn more about how they can support those with ASD.

Participating organisations include members of Liverpool City Council’s ASD training team, the Alder Hey assessment team and Relax Kids, along with Autism in motion, Autism Adventures UK, and Autism Together.

The week will also include special talks from guest speakers Alex Lowery and Anna Kennedy OBE.
