In June, Year 7 took part in a ‘Global Awareness’ Project, co-ordinated by our trainee teachers. This year the theme was based on the Democratic Republic of Congo and the PSM, a charity close to the school. Throughout the day students learnt about the local life, the geography, African language and history of the DRC. Students were also took part in face-painting and designing their own t-shirt.
At the end of the day, students had a brief talk from James Sloan, Director of Imagine If Trust, and had the opportunity to ask him questions. After this, they paused for reflection and each wrote a prayer based on what they had learnt about the Congo.
To end an exciting day, students, and even some members of staff, took part in learning traditional African dancing. A fun time was had by all our students, and a big thank you must go to all our trainee teachers and staff in school who helped organise a fantastic day.
