Sports and Outdoor Pursuits
The school offers an outstanding programme of extra-curricular activities that enable students to succeed in a wide variety of sports. Highly enthusiastic and committed leadership is well focused on raising achievement, providing high-quality worthwhile experiences for every student. The courses offered provide a wealth of leadership opportunities for the students too. Extensive use is made of the Cricket and Sports Centre. Sports leadership qualifications partner the GCSE PE Programme at Key Stage 4, and the highly successful BTEC Sport qualification in Sixth Form.
St Margaret's has set high standards of sportsmanship and fair play on the soccer field and boys have also played at City, County, Regional and International levels. Students have been successful at representative level, with many students playing for Liverpool Schools' teams. St Margaret's teams are regular finalists in regional competitions.
We have a strong record of success in Basketball and in Rugby. Our Cross-Country teams are organised in all-age groups with opportunities to run in the Merseyside Midweek League, Merseyside Schools' Saturday League and the English Schools' Cup.
In Athletics, St Margaret's students have always performed extremely well at representative level. The District Sports Championship is an event at which our students stand out and often, a large proportion of the individual City Champions are St Margaret's boys.
In the summer, Cricket teams play at the following age groups: U12, U13, U14, U15 and 1st XI. St Margaret's boys often represent the City and the County at cricket.
Whilst it is the aim of the school to provide competition and to provide opportunities for the pursuit of excellence, all students are encouraged to participate and enjoy sporting activities. Valuable links have been forged with primary schools across the city and coaching/competitions at St Margaret's Sports Centre often feature.
