“A Vintage Year” Staff and Students Celebrate

Staff and students have been celebrating another excellent set of exam results at St Margaret’s. The 2016 ‘A’-level, ‘AS’-level and BTEC exam results were published today, and many students have genuine cause to celebrate. “Early analysis suggests our ‘A’-level pass rate is almost 96% this year, which is a real achievement” explained Stephen Brierley, Principal at St Margaret’s. “The number of students gaining top grades is high this year; 32% of our ‘A’-level entries resulted in an A*, and A or a B grade, which has enabled quite a few of our students to go on to the very best Universities in the country.”

Vice-Principal Steve Slater was equally delighted. “I’m thrilled that so many St Margaret’s Sixth Formers have achieved so highly. Such fantastic results don’t come about by accident: they are tribute to the hard work of the students, the high quality of teaching here, the commitment and support of our parents, and the outstanding pastoral care we are able to offer at our Academy.”

This emphasis on taking care of all students, regardless of their ability, has long been a feature of St Margaret’s Sixth Form’s ethos, and at no time is that more important than a day like today. “The University application process can seem daunting,” commented Mr Slater. “But here at St Margaret’s our highly experienced staff can offer students individual care, advice and support as they negotiate the next stage of their education.”That care is evidenced by the fact that the school opened at 8am this morning so that if they needed it, students could have a headstart in accessing the clearing process. Happily, though, for many St Margaret’s Year 13 students this proved unnecessary as they had already secured places at one of their top two choices of University.

“All in all it’s another vintage year for post-16 results here at St Margaret’s,” concluded Stephen Brierley. “Many congratulations to all our students – we are proud of you!”. He was expecting that today’s great results will encourage more students to apply for places in the Sixth Form next week, when the GCSE results are published. “We still have places left in next year’s Year 12, and applicants don’t need to go to church to join us. If any prospective students are interested in becoming part of our burgeoning success story, do get in touch!”. The school’s telephone number is 0151 427 1825.
